SOCIAL MEDIA = LIFE ?

A few days ago the 3 most prominent social media platforms i.e. Facebook, Whatsapp, and Instagram,     went offline for almost 6 hours. You might wonder what's the big deal in it but... You are missing out on the bigger picture and now I am going to tell you what it is.

Facebook has acquired both Whatsapp and Instagram so basically now all the operations of both the apps are carried out by Facebook and both the apps data servers are directly linked to Facebook so now if the main servers of Facebook face a crash then it is expected that even both the Whatsapp and Instagram will to go down, likely as it had happened recently. For us, it may or may not matter much but when we talk about this incident on a global level there had been a lot going on. Mark Zuckerberg has faced an estimated loss of 7 Billion dollars can you just imagine losing such a fortune just because facebook the parent company was down for about 6 hours, and its price on the stock market had gone down to about 5%. This was about Facebook but what happened to its clients or business associates? Many people across the globe own shops on Facebook who have suffered loss but fortunately the problem occurred for 6 hours and not any more than it and if it would have extended for more hours the people around the globe could no longer use any other app which you have logged in through Facebook or Instagram because the apps itself went offline hence no way to authenticate yourself and find a way to log in For example: If you had used Facebook to log in to your Zoom account then during those 6 hours it would not have been possible for you to gain access to your account because there was no Facebook to authenticate that it was you.

The following incident which occurred arises a question that the internet which was supposed to be decentralized is in fact now has become somewhat centralized. Ok, hear me out Tech companies and business giants like GOOGLE, AMAZON, FACEBOOK ( which also includes Instagram and Whatsapp)  kind of control the internet like could you possibly imagine what would have happened if GOOGLE was down even for a day? The answer would be catastrophic !!!! why? We use Google in almost every aspect we can imagine we mainly use it as a search engine to browse the internet but GOOGLE owns YouTube, Gmail Google- pay and many other subsidiaries under its wings now if google were to be down along with it all it's subsidiaries would also have taken the fall due to which there would a loss of billions of dollars and people would also suffer a huge loss as almost all the apps used on androids or ios device uses mainly your google account for the login. Now if there were no google then there would be no way for you to log in also you would no longer receive mails nor you could send one, can you imagine what companies had to suffer if this ever had to happen?

So now we know what role does social media platforms and internet in the whole play an important role in our lives and how the world suffers without them. The solution to avoid this centralization we need to come up with WEB 3.0 which consists of apps and webs in the form of decentralization and you would no longer have required to give access to your data to companies like Facebook to log in to your app or any other website. Well for now the work on WEB 3.0 has already begun and companies like SOLID are only making this vision of decentralized internet come true. Before came the currency to be decentralized and now it's the internet all we can say is that the world is progressing real fast and it's only time that even we have to re-innovate and educate ourselves and be left behind like an outcast to this new growing generation of human race.
